My grade school in NYC needed an art teacher fast, so they got in touch with me and asked. With the offer came other responsibilities such as academic advisor, and school publications designer. I was busy. Just before spring break the school’s head lacrosse coach had to take time off for paternity leave, and I was asked to help a program in it’s third year of existance. None of the current coaching staff ever played lacrosse. The team only complied two wins in the past two seasons.
That season we went undefeated and won a city title. The students in the school didn’t just look at me only as an art teacher. But I also realized how much I missed playing lacrosse. That summer, with the “lacrosse bug” fresh in me, I went on a mission to get back to playing.
Funny how such things spark major change – for the better.
