Early is on time. On time is late.
I just got off a business call with a prospective business-partner that went very well. The call was scheduled for 2pm EST, with me calling in. At 1:57pm EST, I started dialing. At around 2:45pm EST, let’s just say that the “green light” was made. But more on that, later during the year – really. I’m always nervous prior to phone meetings, just like I’m still nervous before every lacrosse game and stepping in goal – at the age of 35!
On my 28th birthday, my advertising agency gave me this book, along with a promotion to Art Director. My boss and Creative Director, Jack Anesh, who had his fair share of success in the ad world, wrote inside:
“There’s always someone better. See you at 8:59am!”
I told him that my biggest fear at the office was to show up or turn in work late. I still read this book for advice and inspiration. His note is the first thing I see when I open the book.
Who are your mentors and role-models? What kind of advice did they give you? Happy Friday!
If you were a child of the 80’s and early 90’s, you will definitely recognize some of Jack Anesh’s work during Saturday morning cartoon commercials.
