The Making of the Box Goalie

The first post-collegeiate club lacrosse team that I started was organized so that I could play lacrosse while starting my professional career. A by-product of that mission was the ability to play lacrosse all-year round. During the winter season, we played indoors, or ‘box’, as it’s called. As a field goalie, the switch to box wasn’t hard because the goal was smaller and I had more protection, thus having more courage. But shots were coming at a faster pace, mostly at random. That interesting experience lasted 3 seasons, at most, and it always sparked the idea for one of my newest images to the portfolio.

One of my former teammates on that squad, once joked by calling box lacrosse goalies ‘Human Barcaloungers’, due to the padding they wear. That thought came to right mind when executing the piece. Below, are the progress pics.

It was a lot of fun doing this piece while being reminded of my limited box lacrosse experience. Should all things go right with this new image, another product will soon come from this idea. But, that is another story!

The finished result, below.
